Exploring the Benefits of Organic Foods vs. Non Organic Foods. You Make The Call

Many people around the globe are beginning to discover that organic foods are quite beneficial. These people are experiencing the impressive effects of consuming organic products in their weight, their energy levels, and their health in general. What began as a general movement has now developed into a full fledge way of life with these individuals. Here, we will be exploring the benefits of organic foods.

In order to realize how organic foods benefit an individuals health, it is necessary to understand the chemistry behind foods that are not regarded organic. When foods that are not organic are grown, the farmers and other individuals responsible for the harvests implement the use of various chemicals to promote the growing process. Some chemicals are used to help grow the crop, some are used to strengthen the crop, and others are used to protect the crop.

Fertilizers are used to plant the crop of foods that are not considered organic and to stimulate the growth process. As the crop starts to grow, farmers will add an herbicide to the mix to help fortify the plant. Furthermore, these same individuals will also implement pesticides on the crop to ensure that it is protected from various pests. When these foods are shipped to the assorted markets around the world, there are still traces of these materials on the foods. This means that when taking in these items, you are presenting your body to a assortment of chemicals that could damage your health.

When organic foods are cultivated, it is done with uttermost care. The chemicals mentioned above are not utilized on organic foods. The farmers of these special harvests undergo precautions to ensure that the food is kept away from possibly dangerous chemicals and contaminated growing methods. This is what makes this type of food especially attractive to those who want to live a healthy lifestyle.

There has been much research conducted that involves analyzing organic foods and the affect that they have on an individuals health. This research has concluded that the pure, nourishing goodness of organic products are a key essential in ensuring a healthy life. One reason is, of course, attributed to the fact that they are not produced utilizing the same chemicals as the foods that we mentioned earlier. The other reason that they have been determined to be healthier is that they possess an excessive level of antioxidants. Antioxidants are a key nutrient for the body. These antioxidants function in the body to repair respective items that have been damaged by dangerous substances. In addition, they supply a film of protection for cells throughout the body to secure that further damage is prevented. Antioxidants have been demonstrated to reverse the effects of serious illness, injuries, and diseases.

When exploring the benefits of organic foods, you will find that all points to the positive. These types of foods do not contain dangerous chemicals, and are grown in the purest form possible. Additionally, organic foods provide essential nutrients that your body needs to function properly. There is an issue of quality even in food, an apple is important for good nutrition but if it is not grown organically it may not really meet the bodies needs. Growing organically not only produces a less polluted product, it is also going back to the basics of how food has always been grown.

What Is Organic Chemistry

As a premed student I entered organic chemistry with some level of anxiety. This seemed to be the course that I had heard thinned the ranks of prospective physicians by getting a poor grade or failing. For me it was a generally enjoyable course, and I went on to major in chemistry, and did most of my advance course work in organic chemistry. Organic chemistry is really carbon chemistry. This is because the carbon atom is the backbone of all living creature's molecules.

Carbon is an interesting element in that it has 8 protons and 8 electrons. In the simple Bohr model of thinking of electron levels, the innermost level has 2 electrons. Then next level has 8 electrons, of which 6 are filled with the electrons of the carbon molecule. This leaves two places empty, and so allows carbon molecules to easily form chains where two carbon to carbon molecules share one of their outer level electrons in a C-C bond. Hydrogen molecules which have a single electron in the innermost level that can accommodate 2 electrons often in nature binds with carbon molecules by sharing their electron with a carbon molecule to form a C-H bond. In this way chains of carbon molecules with C-H bonds occupying most of all of the available electron levels can from molecules called hydrocarbons.

Hydrocarbons in chains and often in 5 or 6 carbon loops make up many of the skeletons of the molecules in living organisms. Oxygen molecules are often incorporated, either as -OH moieties or a double bonded C=O bonds less commonly form most of the other covalent bonds in living organisms. Other elements like phosphorous, sulfa and nitrogen play key roles, but in organic chemistry there were definitely fringe players.

A solid understanding of the nomenclature and properties of carbon chemistry was the key to success in the basic organic chemistry courses. It was a great framework for understanding biochemistry and the basic science work of med school too.
